You are never given a dream without also being given the power to make it come true.
Richard Bach
I love this quote; it is positive and hopeful. But most of us don’t get exactly what we want all the time.
Having watched this TED Talk by Lisa Bu, twice, I wanted to add it to this blog as a piece of inspiration for us all.
Why? Because so many of us live our lives in pursuit of our dreams, whether public or unspoken.
And in this talk Lisa explains her belief that our dreams have purpose, even if we don’t achieve them. Either way it seems – dreams are good.
I wrote a post in which I chatted about one of my dreams becoming real.
Have you experienced this, yet?
What are your dreams?
- so what do you truly desire?
- and what is really important to you?
- what are your top priorities?
You may know immediately, intuitively, or you may have to do a little digging. Spending some time in silence can help to quiet the mind and clarify your dreams. If a few things pop up, can you tell which is the most important to you, or the underlying desire?
When I did my digging, I had a list of things, which included material, spiritual and emotional, that I wanted.
But one of the underlying desires behind many of them was stability.
Another underlying desire was my craving for some sort of independence.
And beneath them all was my dream of creating and living – quality of life.
Here is the 4 of us on the beach – together, outdoors – that’s a simple beautiful quality of life moment!
What is the first thing you want to achieve:
- do you want stability?
- how about adventure?
- do you want to solve a problem?
- spend more time with your family?
- do you aspire to be a worthy role model?
- do you want direction?
- thinking of creating something of your own?
- do you think you want to run your own business?
Whatever you want – these are your dreams. These are the things you want, these are the reasons you work hard, this is what drives you to persevere, to choose the harder path at times.
But – whether we do achieve them or not, our dreams still have value. This is according to Lisa Bu.
See what she has to say about the important purpose of our dreams, even if shattered – from 5.00 where she says coming true is not the only purpose of a dream.
